Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Meet the New York Team Behind Ashby Chimney New York
Ashby Chimney New York has been cleaning and repairing chimneys across the five boroughs since 2002. The crew you’ll meet here is small on purpose. Every technician is background-checked, uniformed, and trained to the same standard Nathan Corliss set when he opened the doors: show up in the window, say the price before any work starts, and leave the flue cleaner than you found it. We don’t rotate strangers through your house. The people below are the ones who answer when you call, and the ones who’ll ring your doorbell.
Styles & brands we work with

Our People
Nathan Corliss, Owner
Nathan founded Ashby Chimney New York in 2002 and still runs jobs personally when the schedule demands it. He started sweeping chimneys in his early twenties and has spent the years since getting particular about flue liners, draft dynamics, and the difference between creosote that brushes off and creosote that’s baked into the tile. Nathan writes the estimates himself and stands behind every one with the Kingswell Guarantee: a written price before work begins, a written guarantee when it’s done, and a free return visit if a covered repair fails. When he’s not on a roof, he’s usually under a hood at a diner in Queens arguing about whether a proper sweep takes forty-five minutes or an hour. It takes an hour.
Mike T., Lead Technician
Mike has been with Ashby Chimney New York for eleven years, which means he’s swept everything from prewar brownstone flues in the West Village to stainless steel liners in new builds out in Riverdale. He holds his CSIA certification and handles most of our Level 2 camera inspections, the ones where a small camera goes up the flue and you see exactly what we see on the screen. Mike is the guy who can tell you whether the crack in your clay tile liner needs a HeatShield resurfacing or can wait another season, and he’ll say so plainly either way. Off the clock he restores old motorcycles, which explains why his truck always smells faintly of carburetor cleaner.
Denise R., Service Coordinator
Denise is the voice on the other end of (315) 644-2982 when you call, and she’s been scheduling sweeps and inspections for the New York team since 2015. She knows the city’s building access quirks better than most inspectors: which brownstones need a roof hatch key, which co-op boards want a certificate of insurance before we step on property, and which blocks you simply don’t drive a box truck down on street-sweeping day. Denise handles the written estimates, the appointment confirmations, and the calls from homeowners who aren’t sure whether they need a sweep or an inspection. She’ll ask the right questions and book the right service, no upselling.
Luis A., Apprentice Technician
Luis joined Ashby Chimney New York two years ago after working residential roofing, so he’s already comfortable on a steep pitch in January. He’s training under Mike and handles brush work, drop cloth setup, and the HEPA vacuum runs that keep soot out of your living room. Luis is methodical about liners, the clay or steel tube that vents combustion gases out of your home, and he’s working toward his own CSIA certification. We send him up the easy flues and keep him off the ones that need a senior hand, but he’s earned the right to be on a lot of the easy ones. He’s also the reason the truck always has coffee.
One Standard, Every Job
Every Ashby Chimney New York technician works the same way, and it’s not a training manual we dust off for new hires. It’s the Kingswell Way: say the price before anything starts, show up in the window we gave you, leave the place cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, and come back if the repair fails. That last part isn’t a slogan. If a covered repair fails inside the guarantee period, we return and correct it at no charge. No argument, no invoice, no “well actually.” Nathan has run the New York location that way since 2002, and Mike, Denise, and Luis carry it every day. The name Ashby carries ash right in it, which is fitting for the people whose job is to clean it out. But we’d rather you think of us as the crew that shows you the flue, before the brush goes up and after it comes down.
